The force has been strong with Disney ever since the release of,”The Force Awakens”, in 2015. When the seventh film in the Star Wars saga released on December 18, 2015 it quickly became the number one domestic movie. “The Force Awakens”, was the first movie in Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy and with Episode 8,”The Last Jedi”, releasing soon, Disney is prepping to strap up the Star Wars series for a jump to lightspeed.
“The Last Jedi”, is releasing on December 15, and continues Rey and Finn’s journey from the Force Awakens. In the new movie, Luke Skywalker will take Rey under his wing to train her to face the evil forces of the First Order, Kylo Ren, and Supreme Leader Snoke.
A little more than five months later, on May 25, 2018, the next Star Wars movie is releasing. “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, will focus on the adventures of a young Han Solo and Lando Calrissian before the events of the first Star Wars movie, “A New Hope”, which released 40 years prior on May 25, 1978. Han will be played by Alden Ehrenreich, while Lando will be played by Donald Glover. The movie is a standalone movie that is not part of the current trilogy and will most likely not receive a sequel.
The company recently announced plans to release a brand new trilogy of Star Wars films to be written and directed by Rian Johnson, who also directed and wrote,”The Last Jedi”. This new trilogy will take place in the far reaches of the galaxy and will have nothing to do with the characters of the Skywalker Saga from the previous movies. No release date was given for the new movies in the trilogy, however it will most likely be after 2019.
In the same financial call, Disney also announced that they will create a brand new live-action Star Wars T.V. show that will release in 2019. The show will be exclusive to their new streaming service that will also be launching in 2019. When the streaming service releases, Disney will be pulling all of its movies and T.V. shows from Netflix and other streaming services. It is unknown what the series will be about at this time, however it will be the first time there is a live-action Star Wars show. Junior, Ryan Demarco, said, “The fact that star wars is expanding on an exponential scale is confusing for the consumer, because you want Star Wars to be a good series for future generations. However, you don’t want Star Wars to burn out with too many releases.”
Along with the countless new movies and the new T.V. show, Disney has been on point when it comes to Star Wars releases. From classic returning characters such as Mark Hamill’s, “Luke Skywalker”, in, “The Last jedi”, to learning about unknown corners of the galaxy in the brand new trilogy, Star Wars fans have much to be excited for, yet may have to wait many years for some of the movies that have been announced. In the wise words of Yoda, “Patience you must have.”
