At 8:46 AM on September 11, 2001 the first plane hit the World Trade Center’s North tower beginning the events that will never be forgotten to this day. As people around the world remember those who have passed or honor those who served or helped on that day, it is important to remember everyone has their own story from that day.
Cass Philpott, a mom of two that resides in Milford, CT remembers that 24 hours as if it was yesterday. She recounts that on her way to work that morning she was “listening to Howard Stern” and that’s how she was informed of the attacks.
She says “ I initially thought it was just a little plane. But as the morning unfolded it became very scary.”
Because Philpott’s husband worked in the city she felt increasingly worried about the events playing out while she was working in Westport, CT. Not only did Philpott have her husband working in the city at that period of her life but something that made the event so much more surreal was that she was in the towers the night before.
Merely eight hours before the first plane hit the north tower Cass, her husband, and family from California were in the tower for something so simple as using the restroom. Cass states: “the night before, we were looking up at the buildings talking about the 1993 attacks asking ourselves if anyone would try again.”
After reassuring themselves it would never happen again the Philpotts sat and watched as the tower fell, Philpott says her most vivid memory is of the First tower falling which she will “never forget.”
