2023 has produced a lot of popular movies, but two of the biggest were Barbie and Oppenheimer. Both movies were released on the same day, July 21, 2023. These movies were the most anticipated films of the year, both having massive marketing campaigns and budgets.
The Barbie movie has made approximately 1.4 billion dollars worldwide according to boxofficemojo.com. Fans were especially interested in the production team’s effort in creating the sets from scratch.Barbie, starring Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken), has Barbie traveling to the human world in order to understand herself and discover her true purpose. Her “kinda-sorta boyfriend”, Ken, goes with Barbie because his own existence depends on Barbie acknowledging him.
Senior Kenzie Posey comments on her views of the film.
“It was interesting to see the young adult, and kid perspective of the movie, with being interested in Barbie when I was younger it was really fun to see the movie,” Posey explains.
Oppenheimer was a history movie based upon the creation of the first atomic bomb and its creator J. Robert Oppenheimer. The movie went over the life of Robert Oppenheimer from when he was in school. The main focus of the movies was not intended to be the atomic bomb or World War 2. Instead the movie focused on the creation of the atomic bomb and its consequences as well as its effect on the world and the future of the world. The movie also shows the effect it took on Robert Openheimer and how he lived with the regret of the killing of hundreds of thousands of people.
The big draw of the movie is that it used no computer-generated imagery (CGI) and was filmed with special imax cameras, one of only four in the world. The movie by world-famous producer Christopher Nolan has made a little under $900 million dollars worldwide according to boxofficemojo.com.
