Cool cars, scary decorations, a frightening walk in the woods, good candy, and pure fun. Trunk or Treat is back and Orange Ave Elementary is ready. Orange Avenue has had their annual trunk or treat October 13, 2023 for 27 years since 1996.
Every year around Halloween, elementary schools host the annual trunk or treat. This event is a competition between families to see who has the best trunk. Contestants who decide to participate design their trunk any way they want. Most people design it along a Halloween theme.
Some people have funny themes, others have animal themes, it all depends on who is designing their trunk. The families in this event have to buy candy in order to give out to the kids. It is like trick or treating on Halloween but all of the cars (houses) are near each other.
Orange Ave Elementary school (OAS) principal Mr. Apicella enjoys the trunk or treat activities that occur almost every year. Mr. Apicella likes all of the families creative ideas and the fun and memorable experiences that occur for the kids and families.
Mr. Apicella states some of his most memorable trunks were, “full size gum ball machine. The other that comes to mind are three cars that were decorated as a house of straw, a house of sticks and a house of bricks from the three little pigs.”
Orange Avenue School has been doing this trunk or treat for a while now. Quite a few members from Foran have even participated in the event and have family still involved in the exciting event. Junior Nolan Fortier, loved this event when he was younger.
One of the things Fortier has remembered most about OAS trunk or treat was “Dan’s [Hulme] dad’s truck because it was always the scariest and best put together trunk.”
Fortier misses this part about elementary school because he felt more free “being able to hang out with friends outside of school at such a young age.” Some of his most fun memories of elementary school came from this event.
Fortier still has family that participates in the trunk or treat at OAS. Katina Marrone is Fortier’s aunt; she has kids that still participate in the event. Marrone states her favorite part of the event is “I love being able to give back to the school and providing a fun experience for the OAS families.”
Marrone has a lot of memories with her kids and Fortier in this event. The Trunk or Treat is a very special time for them. Marrone and her kids love picking the theme every year and trying to find ways to win.
Marrone and her family have a lot of ties and experiences in this event.
“My favorite memory is taking my kids to trunk or treat before they were OAS students with my niece and nephew,” says Marrone.
The Trunk or treat is a special time for OAS families. This event brings families together and forms bonds through planning out and customizing your trunk.
