During passing periods, in the shower, doing homework, and driving, everyone listens to music, and everyone has their favorites. Everyone has that thought of which song to listen to, and these are some of Foran’s favorites.
Many students contributed their favorite songs, to which only one song came up more than once, Religiously by Bailey Zimmerman with a grand total of two mentions. It was quite surprising that only one song was repeated, considering how similar people’s favorite artists and genres overlapped.
The favorite genres overlap quite a bit more, as expected. While there were many outliers, there were three main overall favorites. In third place was country music, with a total of 15 votes. Country music is a genre that is not usually listened to here in Connecticut until quite recently, and is outstanding that it is the third favorite genre.
In second place was rap/hip hop, with a total of 20 votes. Rap and hip hop, in contrast to country, have been in Connecticut with influence from New York City for decades. It is no surprise that it is the second favorite. First place, The favorite music genre, was pop music, with a total of 22 votes. Similar to rap and hip hop, pop music has been quite popular in Connecticut for decades as well. Pop music is different from rap music though, as the style of pop music changes more drastically from year to year, unlike rap and hip hop.
Senior Connor Oliveras states, “I’m surprised that rap music is not the most popular here.”
The favorite artists are somewhat diverse from each other,with an R&B artist, a country artist, and a country/pop artist. In third place with four votes, The Weeknd, whose most popular song is Blinding Lights. In second place, is Zach Bryan, with six votes. Bryan’s most popular song is Something in the Orange. In first place with 12 votes, is Taylor Swift. Swift’s most popular song at the moment is Blank Space, and Swift is one of the most popular artists right now, both because of her songs and because of her dating left.
Sophomore Pacey Larka states, “I’m not surprised by Taylor Swift, with her sudden popularity with girls my age, but I think her fans are too obsessed with alright music.”
While there are billions of great artists and songs, as well as thousands of different genres to listen to, Taylor Swift and pop music are the most popular here at Joseph A. Foran High School this month.
