Mr. Sean Fenton has been keeping the Milford high schools clean since 1986. Fenton began his custodial career working night shifts at Jonathan Law for four years before coming to work at Foran in 1990.
For the past 32 years at Foran, Fenton has been enjoying every minute.
Fenton begins each day at seven o’clock in the morning. He starts working floor by floor to clean, dust, and detail all before school starts, ensuring students are being educated in the cleanest environment possible.
Fenton then has various other tasks throughout the day such as going through packages and making deliveries around the school. Many students spot him as he cleans the cafeteria between lunch waves.
He says, “You have a day here and there where you do something different but you get into a routine and for the most part you have your set routine.”
For Fenton, his favorite part of the job is the people he interacts with each and every day. Whether it be his fellow employees, or students, he is always sure to reach out with a friendly hello.
He says, “The kids and people I work with are fantastic and I love how we talk about sports. It’s always about the Sunday NFL, who won the game, who lost, and then you have that great conversation.”
All of the students at Foran recognize Fenton’s dedication and passion towards his job.
Junior Isabella Salai says, “I always see Sean in the halls and I really appreciate how hard he works to keep our school clean everyday along with the other custodians. I love how friendly and caring he is towards all of us at Foran.”
Not only is Fenton’s work noticed by the students but it is also appreciated by the staff.
Dean of Students Mr. Justin Zywocinski says, “We are lucky to have Sean as a custodian here at Foran. He is one of the hardest working individuals that I know. On top of his hard work he is just such a nice guy to be around. He is always positive.”
Outside of school, Fenton enjoys both swimming and biking.
He says, “When you work here knowing you will be in great shape makes your job a little easier.”
Whether it be coming in on snow days or working countless hours over the summer, being a custodian means doing the behind the scenes work that students don’t see but should appreciate.
Next time students see Fenton in the hall, they should make sure to give him a wave and a thank you.
