In the realm of sports, there’s an aspect that is often overlooked. The connection and rivalry experienced by siblings on the field, where families collide, with intense competition.
Athletes discuss what it’s like to have a sibling playing a sport in the same season as them. They talked about the advantages and disadvantages of playing sports in the fall and what the competition between family is like. Brandon Marschner is a junior on the football team and his brother also plays for the football team.
- Marschner states, “We always practice together.”
Brandon’s brother, Jack, is a freshman that is already succeeding in the sport.
- Marschner says, “There’s a lot of competition growing up together playing football.”
Both of them are trying to be the best they can be and better than each other. However, this can be a disadvantage because when they’re not on the football field, they could be arguing a lot.
Tye Haley, a junior captain on the soccer team, was asked about playing soccer with his brother, Tristan Haley.
Ty. Haley says, “Almost every day is a competition with my brother, Tristan. Even when we’re at the house playing backyard sports like baseball.”
Ty. Haley also states, “Basketball and football are still competitive and we take it very seriously.”
However, this level of competitiveness has its benefits. Ty. Haley says, “He wakes me up on time for early practices and he teaches me some things. I also try to show him some new things in soccer”. Nonetheless, with these advantages, they also come with disadvantages. Ty. Haley says, “The kid gets a little mouthy sometimes.”
Zach Queiroz, a junior at Foran, talks about his experience with his sibling playing a sport in the fall. Zach plays football and his sister Maddy does cheerleading.
- Queiroz says, “It’s cool to have a sibling that does cheerleading when you play football because they are the two sports that just go together.”
- Queiroz also says that an advantage is, “It’s way easier for our parents because we’re both there at one time.” Now, this isn’t the first time Zach has ever been in a sport in the same season as one of his siblings. He also played football with his older brother, Fernando last year.
Playing sports with your siblings is a very special experience for not only the parents, but the siblings themselves as well.
