The rivalry between Jonathan Law and Foran has been around since 1973, and it continues today, January 24th at Jonathan Law. December 21, 2023 was the last time that Foran played against Law and the lions ended up victorious with a score of 40-29 Foran. As the rematch approaches, both teams are preparing for this battle that is poised to deliver tension, strategic changes and search of a victory.
Captain of the Foran Lions basketball team, Jackson Doyle talks about the stakes of this game. “Before last game we had a 13 game losing streak against them. So, if we could sweep them it is definitely a big statement.”
Starting guard and captain for the Jonathan Law basketball team, Cameron Upchurch, talks about the changes they will make ahead of this game. “What we’re doing differently this time is our defense. Last game our defense wasn’t very good which is one of the main reasons we lost.”
Then, Upchurch discusses his mindset on this upcoming game, “With this game being at home and a cross town rival, the team has a little extra motivation to win.”
Starting forward for the Lions Gabe Bonessi says, “The game means a lot to me. It is very exciting and special for me to play in it against our rivals and it is fun to play in front of a big crowd.”
The Lions play Law two times a year and are looking for the sweep, which Bonessi says, “I think we can definitely accomplish that if we play our best basketball and focus on defense.”
This would be huge for the Lions and a big confidence booster for the rest of the season.
As the game is approaching, players, fans and communities on either side are in anticipation of seeing a great show. Law has the memory of their recent loss motivating them a lot.
