Looking to turn your love for kids into a rewarding gig? Discover the secrets to landing the perfect babysitting job.
Babysitting can take a lot of work to learn about each one of the kids, each kid will have their own personality and things they like and don’t like. One tip to get a family to babysit for long term is to check over with parents on their schedule to make sure it will be a family to babysit for a while.
Mrs. Rachel Pangu is one of the child development teachers, who has been teaching classes surrounding development for 11 years. She has different things she does to prepare her students going into the child learning center.
Pangu makes sure her students understand the different types of development, since not all children the same age will have the same developmental skills. Teaching students to know what is developmentally appropriate for young kids.
Before wanting to babysit Pangu states, “Understand one the different types of development but also how do you gauge what a child is ready for or not ready for.”
Another tip when watching a new family, young kids can be very shy to new people they don’t know. Try to make them feel comfortable and safe, get slowly brought into their lives so the kids will be able to warm up.
Mrs. Courtney Pullins is one of the learning center teachers and has three kids at the ages of seven, six, and four. With the different schedules of them having early dismissal days and her being a teacher needing to stay later, she needed to find a babysitter.
The Pullins have only recently moved to Milford, Connecticut, so they didn’t have many friends or family to be able to watch the three kids while she was at work or when she had appointments.
The way she was finding her babysitters was looking on the internet with the “parent networking site.” She looks for a babysitter that will be hands on with the kids and make fun memories with them.
Pullins states, “Now that we are more established in CT, we’ve met people that became babysitters because they interacted well with my children and were a good fit for babysitting. Basically, they were people we enjoy spending time with that are responsible and caring.”
The Milford Recreation Department is making a class for babysitting safety training. There are a few requirements such as needing to be 11 years old, needing a total of six and a half hours, needing a certificate and wearing comfortable clothes during the classes.
People will be able to learn many different courses during this class. There is a 95 dollar fee to be able to get in their babysitting class. This starts on March 23 from 9:00 to 3:30.
If wanting to start babysitting try to put your name out, so families know you’re ready to start.
