Riley Young finds himself in the shoes of his older brothers, carrying the weight from his two accomplished older siblings. As he carries the torch, he is not only embracing the role of a brother, but redefining it and carving his own path.
As R. Young approaches a new chapter of his life, he finds himself taking on the role of being the older brother in the school to his younger brother, Jackson Young. It’s a role that carries both privilege and responsibility, as he walks the halls like his siblings who came before him, but this time guiding and supporting his little brother through his high school journey.
R. Young has had many influences. The past two years he’s had two older siblings in the same school. Brayden Young, now a sophomore in college and Liam Young, now a freshman in college, who have both certainly made their mark.
Brotherly competition runs in the family. The Young brothers participate in similar sports, basketball and soccer being the most common.
“It’s someone to try to beat and someone ahead of me” R. Young states. This competition drives each one of them to be better than the brother that came before.
The tradition follows R. Young into the halls as well. With such a recognizable last name, teachers have high expectations for R. Young.
“It puts a lot of pressure on me because my two older siblings accomplished a lot so I have to live up to that,” he explains.
One of R.Young’s closest friends, Quentin Bell, has been his friend since kindergarten. He has always been there, supporting him when he needs him. R.Young thinks of him as a great guy and especially a great friend.
Bell says, “He is very insightful and Jackson is very lucky to have Riley as a brother in school next year.”
The expectation of being a role model to his younger sibling is a responsibility that R.Young eagerly embraces. He sees this as an opportunity to lead by example and help Jackson through his first year of high school.
“I feel very excited to pass the knowledge that I have learned through high school,” R.Young states.
R. Young is on his way to making his own reputation, making varsity in every sport he plays and excelling in school. R. Young will soon be ready to pass on the torch to his younger brother. “I carry the name in pride,” R. Young states.
