The total solar eclipse, happening for the first time in the North Eastern US since August 21, 2017. Totality did not hit Milford, Connecticut, but I was not in Milford at this time. I was in Saranac Lake, New York, directly in the path of totality. At 3:24, totality came over us, darkening the town for a long time.
This image was taken at 2:30 pm, at the start of the solar eclipse. This was the first eclipse in 7 years in the United States. This image was taken at 2:45 pm, when the moon covered about half of the sun. The next solar eclipse won’t happen until 2045 in the contiguous United States. This image was taken at 3:00 pm, when the sun was nearly halfway covered by the moon. It started to get noticeably colder by this time. This image was taken at 3:15 pm, when the sun was more than halfway covered by the moon. At this point, it was beginning to get dark outside. This image was taken at 3:20 pm, when the sun was nearly entirely covered by the moon. This is what most people would have seen here in Milford, Connecticut. This image was taken at 3:25, at the beginning of totality. For the next three and a half minutes, Saranac Lake would be in complete darkness. This image was taken during totality, but zoomed out. It was as if the sun was just beginning to rise in the morning. This image, while focused on the eclipse, shows how dark it was in the sky. The light in the sky down and right of the eclipse is the planet Venus, the second planet in our solar system. This image shows the darkness in contrast to the bright lights of an ambulance. These lights lit up the parking lot that we were watching from. This was a mountain across Lake Saranac. The side of the mountain was a beautiful orange from the sun beyond us.This image shows McKenzie Mountain, opposite to the solar eclipse. It was like early morning all around us during totality.
