Since 1997, this family-owned restaurant has been a significant part of our downtown Milford community. Nestled between buildings on River Street, The Corner has been serving delicious breakfasts and lunches for 28 years. The Corner’s charm and uniqueness have given it a great reputation around Milford, Connecticut.
Michelle Lebel and her husband Amer Lebel co-own the restaurant. They always wanted to own a restaurant, so when they had the opportunity to, they took it. When the restaurant first opened, it was very basic. The menu consisted of typical breakfast meals such as pancakes, waffles, omelets, and burritos. Due to this, business was not as successful as they had envisioned.
M.Lebel states, “For the first two years it was scary.” The slow business made the owners nervous for the future.
While the Lebel’s adjusted their menu, the restaurant’s income started to increase. People couldn’t resist the deliciousness of their unique meals. As a result, the business gained lots of popularity.
The peaches and cream stuffed french toast was one of their biggest hits. When they added it to the menu, and people loved it, the owners continued making creative dishes.
The South Indian spiced pulled duck, Malaysian pulled pork, and Cuban Breakfast Tacos are now known as some of the popular dishes at The Corner, the pulled duck dish being at the top of the list. It takes weeks to months in order to perfect a dish.
Overtime, The Corner gained lots of popularity. Their biggest promotion was being on Food Network and Restaurant Road Trip. These national shows brought in even more customers.
Celebrities such as David Blaine, Tracy Reese, and John Ratzenberger even came to try these special meals.
M. Lebel states, “It’s fun to be creative and try different things.”
The Lebels believe that they have the privilege to be so creative because the restaurant is family-owned. The children of the owners spent lots of time in the restaurant during their youth. The Corner became a second home to the family, and even the employees.
Laine Beaudette has been working at the restaurant for a couple months. She states, “It’s very tight knit here.” The cozy, comfortable, and friendly atmosphere allows everyone to feel very welcomed.
Over time, The Corner has grown into more than just a restaurant. It’s become a family, and no matter how often customers come to sit down and eat a delicious meal, the same feeling of having a loving surrounding community never gets old.”
