The last time Foran won the annual Thanksgiving football game against rival Jonathan Law was 2019. That said, the Foran Lions are more set than ever on winning this year’s match.
Raymond Jackson, a junior wide receiver says, “The Lions are going to bite back,” and that determination is high as the big day approaches.
Everyone loves a good high school game, especially when the tension is riding high as it is this year, and it’s a football game on Thanksgiving. With the leaves in colors of orange, yellow and red, along with the cold weather, the holiday spirit adds to the overall atmosphere.
The Thanksgiving football game is an ongoing tradition. Coach Garrett Walker, the fans, players and community have been looking forward to the game all year.
The fans of Foran and Law are eager to see the teams play against each other at Lawmen Stadium. The game is at 10:30 a.m. on November 28. The teams are looking for the win. Both teams look to end the season with a 6-4 record.
“I know our squad will be prepared and chomping at the bit for this game,” says Walker. Foran and Jonathan Law are known for their rivalry; there’s never been a dull moment at one of their games.
Foran hasn’t won the annual Thanksgiving game since 2019, but that doesn’t equate to a four-year losing streak because COVID canceled the 2020 match. Still, the stakes are high for Foran’s varsity team.
“Foran is working really hard to win this year,” Jackson says.
As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, excitement builds in Milford. The fans are anxious to see the teams play.
“The kids know each other. That adds to the level of competition,” says Oscar Valle, a junior cornerback, explaining that there are many juniors on both teams, and some of them went to school together in middle school.
On game day, the two teams will be wearing jerseys that the fans have chosen—Foran’s white out jerseys and Law’s flannel jerseys.
“I believe both teams are pretty evenly matched this year, which should make for another competitive game,” Walker states. There will be players on each side running hard, tackling and simply just trying their best to bring home the win.
Jackson emphasizes that the Foran team has been working harder to get ready, and teammate William Batts says there is a strategy. But for the sake of game day secrecy, he couldn’t elaborate, noting that fans will just have to head to the field Thanksgiving morning to see if all the planning pays off.
