Food, clothing, toiletries, and linens have all been collected in the month of November to support homeless veterans who have served the country bravely. Rho Kappa, Foran’s Social Studies Honors Society, has set up drop-off boxes in every English and Social Studies classroom to gather donations for an organization called Homes for the Brave.
Homes for the Brave is a non-profit organization based in Bridgeport, Connecticut that first opened in 2002. It’s purpose is to provide housing and services to homeless veterans. They also offer programs that help with job training, mental health support, nutrition and life skills, aiming to help veterans get back on their feet.

The drive at Foran not only helps supply veterans with much-needed resources but also raises awareness about the challenges faced by homelessness and the importance of supporting those who have served in the military. It also helps show the importance of community support and giving back to those who defended our country.
Rho Kappa member Ava Rohleder states, “The fundraiser is a very beneficial way to give back to the people who have sacrificed so much. Even the smallest donations help.”
Throughout the month, students and faculty have contributed food and clothing all of which will be donated to the Homes For the Brave organization. Some of the items donated are mens and womens clothing, shelf-stable food, toiletries, and other household goods. Each item will help veterans rebuild their lives and regain their independence to lead stable lives.
Vice President of Rho Kappa, senior Jackson Doyle, explains, “Unfortunately there are still a lot of veterans who struggle to pay bills and find adequate food. So little things like this will go a long way to help them. It’s the right thing to do as they have helped preserve our freedoms and don’t deserve to struggle.”
Overall, the drive was a success, and the efforts of this collection have represented the importance of community, empathy, and the shared responsibility to help those in need. The contributions made will bring comfort to veterans who need it most, reminding them that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.
