The NBA(National Basketball Association) Cup is a new addition to the NBA, and the goal is to see what students and faculty at Foran High school think about it.
Created last year to make the league more enjoyable and give people something to look forward to in the middle of the season. The NBA Cup is an in-season tournament where all 30 teams are put into six groups and one team from each group moves on and one wild card. From there it goes to a knockout stage until a champion is crowned.
Multiple students and teachers at Foran were asked about their thoughts on the NBA cup and who they think might win this year.
Justin Perez, a junior at Foran says, “I think it’s a great way to keep excitement throughout the season.”
He thinks it’s a great way to expand the audience of the league and will likely watch the NBA more now because of this.
Perez also states, “I think the Thunder will win, because they are a great all around team.”
The reason Perez thinks the Thunder will take the top spot in this tournament is because the team is well-balanced and is built around their star point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, an MVP caliber player in the past few years.
Mr. Zach Phelan was asked who he thought would win, Phelan says, “My pick, regretfully, are The Bucks, they’re getting hot and healthy at just the right time and Giannis is playing with something to prove.” Phelan would turn out to correct with his predictions as the Bucks defeated
Another person asked is Isaac Juliao, a freshman here at Foran. Juliao will play basketball for the school this winter season. His favorite team is the Brooklyn Nets.
Juliao states, “If you’re bored watch the NBA.”
Juliao thinks the NBA cup is a great way to expand the audience and grow the sport.
Students and faculty have different opinions on who will win but it seems they all think that this is a great addition to the association and will cause the game to grow even more.
