AI is starting to become more and more utilized in classrooms. Let’s take a look at both students’ and teachers’ opinions on the pros and cons of AI.
AI has the ability to be very beneficial when used correctly and moderated. It can save time, and provide unbiased information. AI can also have drawbacks. It can be considered cheating or plagiarism.
History teacher Zachary Phelan states, “AI can be used as a tool and the idea of it is getting smarter and better. It can also be misused a lot not even in the sense of cheating or plagiarism but in the sense that we might not be asking the right questions.”
Unlike humans, AI does not need to rest. This makes school work easier and much faster. This can lead to humans relying on AI and not completely retaining information they should be learning.
Valentina Palisi says “A con of AI could be that even though it is there as a helping hand it can also take away from some of learning.”
AI is becoming a more significant part of our lives. As it keeps progressively advancing, teachers may also incorporate AI in their teaching, whether it is to help plan lessons or even create ideas for themselves.
Mr. Dooling says, “I have actually tried to incorporate AI in my teaching, I’ve been working with a couple other teachers to make that a goal of exposing students to AI as a tool.”
While AI can process huge amounts of information super fast, sometimes the information is not accurate. Some students may find long immense answers that aren’t always correct. This can lead to misunderstandings. Some students find the answers that AI gives very lengthy and hard to navigate.
People may start to become way too dependent on it. They could start relying on AI for essays, homework, schoolwork and even everyday decisions instead of thinking for themselves.
AI can be both beneficial and unfavorable. Although it comes with many exciting benefits, it can cause some major drawbacks in daily life.
