As the winter season approaches, Foran students’ hobbies emerge. Some include figure skating, joining the ski and snowboard club, and starting new genres or reading books.
Co-advisor for ski and snowboarding club Miss. Chelsea Green has been part of the club for three years.
She states one of her favorite reasons for being a co-advisor of the club is “being able to share a common interest with my students.”
Her enthusiasm for this club is clear. She also said that by going on these ski trips, she has the opportunity to learn more about her students as people, since they are in a more relaxed area.
Being co-advisor of the Ski and Snowboard club also gives Green time to hit the slopes.
She states, “I enjoy skiing, but have difficulty finding time to hit the slopes. Being an advisor for the club creates opportunities for me to go!”
As well as Green, freshman Lexi Wainman is also excited for the ski and snowboard club this year.
“I can’t wait to do an overnight trip! A bunch of my friends are in it so I am super excited,” states Wainman.
There are many different winter activities for Foran students, such as Sophomore Allison Ryan, who has been figure skating since she was eight years old.
She was inspired by her father, who played hockey and taught her how to skate.
Along with her father, her mother inspires her too. She enrolled her in a learn-to-skate class, helping her become confident on the ice.
Ryan states, “I enjoyed the experience, which led me to pursue figure skating classes and progressively advance.”
Ryan wants to help and give tips to people just starting to skate. Her top four are:
One: learn how to balance and fall safely.
Two: ensure your skates are fitted well and are also comfortable to improve balance and minimize discomfort.
Three: take your time do not rush during the learning process
Four: make sure you have a solid grasp of the fundamentals before attempting to do more advanced stunts and tricks!
During the winter time, Melissa Campoli reads many different genres including romance, mystery, and horror.
She recommends a book called Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, it is about CeeCee exploring friendship and elements of a new Savannah community.
Ms. Camooli describes it as “warm and fuzzy but also a heartwarming read at the same time.”
Winter activities allow Foran students to engage in the season in fun ways through hobbies.
