Do you ever feel lonely on Valentine’s Day and have no one to be with? Well there’s no problem with that. There are plenty of things you can do even without a partner. Valentine’s Day can be a day just for yourself.
There are many things that you can do on Valentine’s Day that don’t include being with a special someone, like staying home and watching TV, playing video games, hanging out with friends or family, or just simply doing something that interests you.
Luis Garcia, a grade nine student, says, “I’m going to be playing on my VR headset and be with my family,” during Valentine’s Day and through the break. He says he is just fine with not having a special someone to spend the day with.
Andrew Grass, a grade 11 student, states, “When I was single I would just play board games with my friends.” Grass also says, “It was, to be honest, just another day.”
A recent poll published by YouGov found that 58% of the majority of the U.S. population don’t think Valentine’s Day is a real special occasion. However 30% of men and women think it is. More younger adults celebrate it and think of it as a real special occasion than older adults.
As much as the concept of being in love has become associated with Feb. 14, so too has the idea of not being in love. An online search of “Single on Valentine’s Day” elicits a number of hits, from an article in Today.com called “21 Things to Do if You’re Flying Solo,” to a parade.com piece called “75 Single on Valentine’s Day Quotes.”
