With dogs and cats being common companions, is it typical to encounter a unique pet? The spectrum of pets at Foran has a wide range of diversity and this month, many students showcase their rare pets.
While chickens are very common farm pets, it is very unusual to see them play the role of a pet in a household.
Senior Carlie Mae Simard states, “I got Misti 5 years ago. Something that makes her different from other pets is the fact that she lays fresh eggs that we can cook and eat. Another thing my mom and I like to do with Misto is take her on walks and run around with her, she’s very energetic, even for her age.”
Chickens aren’t only energetic creatures, they eat pests and bugs that may be found in grass or dirt. Additionally, they produce delicious eggs that can contribute to sustainability.
With turtles’ mellow behavior, they are very entertaining and amusing pets.
Senior Carli Cassone says, “My turtle is quite little so I can’t really play with him. He lives in my fish tank with the fish and he’s very cute to look at. My dad actually found him by the school’s football field.”
Turtles are a very unique pet with their aquatic behaviors and quiet nature. They are also very low maintenance with their own independence.
Lastly, pigs are very intelligent creatures with a very playful and social personality. Their charm makes them unique and delightful companions.
Junior Averi Ferris states, “Me and my pig Penelope used to chase each other around the yard for hours on end.”
Though they may be wrongfully perceived as unsuitable pets, they are fairly clean and fun to own. With proper care, they can form strong bonds with their owners.
Having a unique pet brings special joy and shows there are many ways to bond with animals. It’s a reminder that all pets can add something truly special to our lives.
