The school year is almost over, and summer break plans are forming for many students within Milford. One of the most popular pastimes to do over the summer is to take a visit to the beach.
“I like to hang out with my friends at the beach and go in the water. It gives us something to do over the summer,” says junior Brogan Casey.
Across the Long Island Sound, the local beaches in Milford can offer a great and relaxing experience for a summer day trip, especially for those who don’t plan on traveling to other parts of the United States or abroad.
Silver Sands Beach
Silver Sands is one of the best and most well-known beaches in the state of Connecticut, as its ocean waters are some of the warmest in the New England region. It also provides gentle waves, soft and clean sand, and a boardwalk to get a better view of Charles Island.
Anchor Beach
Out of all the beaches in Milford, Anchor is the smallest. It is also the most separate from the rest of the beaches, with the closest beach next to it being Woodmont Beach.
Anchor Beach is located in the Woodmont neighborhood area, and it provides a scenic view of small islands and outcroppings of rocks on the sound.
Gulf Beach
Located near the Milford Harbor, Gulf’s shoreline and fishing pier offer a unique scenery to be witnessed, with it also comes a great sunset view.
Along with its scenery, Gulf provides picnic tables and a small place called Goodies to order food from, making it a great place to hang out with friends and family.

Walnut Beach
Walnut has many attractions to it that help it stand out from the others. From having a mile-long boardwalk to picnic benches with canopies, to a fishing pier, to a live concert series that takes place six specific days during the summer, Walnut shows how much diversity it has compared to the other beaches.
“I like how you can get a Walnut Beach Creamery and also The Greek Spot,” says junior Mark Berlen. The Greek Spot is a restaurant near both Walnut and Silver Sands beaches.
Despite being all located in one city, the beaches in Milford all have their own individual traits that help them stand out. For more insight on the Milford beaches, Discover Milford CT has info on not just the beaches, but Milford as a whole.
