With the 2025 fall volleyball season kicking off, the Lady Lions are picking up where they left off. After a loss in last year’s playoffs, they’re hungry for another season.
The team captains include three seniors: Nyah Boromei, Kylie Posey, and Aubrey Pippa. This is now their fourth season playing together on the team.
The 18 wins last season as a team were a direct result of bonding together. They would gather before the season starts, prep during the summer, and hang out with each other for team camaraderie.
New assistant coach Mrs. Melissa Cacioppo has been pleased with the team’s start to the season. She is excited to be a part of the coaching staff.
Cacioppo says, “My favorite part of coaching so far is watching the team play and execute a skill that we worked on in practice. Of course, winning is always great too!”
Team bonding is very important. It builds chemistry so the team can succeed against their opponents. The Lions have shown perfect execution because of bonds.
Junior Ella DiNatale states, “We have pasta parties to get together before gamedays, we had a lot of summer league games, so coming together for that before the season helped us have a stronger start, and hanging out before games and practices helps the connection become stronger.”

All this team bonding has definitely paid off; they have been off to a successful start this season and have high hopes for the remainder. The Lions are 6-0 to start the year and have wins over Wilbur Cross, Law, Lyman Hall, Sheehan, Cheshire, and Shelton.
Senior Captain Nyah Boromei says, “We hope to qualify for states, have a good win-loss record, develop our skills as players, and teach younger players important things to help them learn, as well as what it means to be on a team, and build good relationships within our team that will last beyond just our season.”
Beyond the Lions’ five wins to start the season, it has been a team effort when it comes to those wins. The team has averaged 190 kills, 8.3 kills per set, 27.8 kill percentage, 683 attack attempts, and a 0.100 hitting percentage (via MaxPreps).
Senior Maddie Heitmann says, “I’d say probably growing and bonding as a team together. You can’t be successful if you don’t all work together and have a strong bond as teammates, and it’s so rewarding to have each other.”
When it comes to winning, it involves having fun, and when the Lady Lions get the win, whether at home or on the road, it is a lot of fun.
Junior Maddy Brooks states, “I like getting to play and compete with all my friends.”
The Lions’ next game is Friday, September 19, where the Lady Lions take on the Amity High School Spartans at 5:30 PM @Amity. Come out and support!
