PSAT and SAT scores could impact the first steps of an entire career. Many students don’t realize the significant impact these tests have when it comes to influencing scholarship chances, college placement, and future opportunities. Turning to experts can maximize the chance for a high score on the PSAT/SAT.
With standardized tests like the PSAT and SAT happening, students across the country are looking for ways to study smarter and maximize their scores.
Foran Dean of Students, Mr. Justin Zywocinski, explains how Foran helps students prepare for these major tests. “Teachers know the content, and the curriculum supports what’s on the PSAT and SAT,” Zywocinski said, “We also share a College Board study guide through email and the Friday news, and students get multiple chances to take the PSAT here at Foran.”
Zywocinski highlights how they can make a difference for students applying to college. “Many colleges look at SAT scores as a way to stand out when comparing students with similar grades,” he said.

Megan McTigue, Foran’s 2022 valedictorian, also shared her advice for current students preparing for the PSAT and SAT. “Taking the PSAT seriously helped me see exactly where I needed to improve before the SAT,” Megan said. “I used the resources my teachers shared and practiced regularly. It really paid off when I applied to colleges.”
Darla Holister, a representative from the UConn admissions office, shares why standardized tests like the SAT can matter in college admissions. “SAT scores give us a consistent way to compare students from different schools and backgrounds,” Holister says. “They’re just one part of the application, but a strong score can help a student stand out when grades and extracurriculars are similar.”
Whether it’s getting tips from teachers or learning about available resources, students have numerous ways to approach test preparation strategically. The PSAT and SAT aren’t just about a single score; they can shape scholarship opportunities, college placement, and even the trajectory of your career. Preparing smart now can pay off for years to come.
