The former One Direction star, Harry Styles, has expanded on his success by moving from X-Factor star, to worldwide phenomenon, and then to solo artist in a matter of seconds.
As May came around Styles proclaimed a self titled album that was immediately barred with success. The album included eight songs that were all unlike any song Harry has ever sung before. Styles said in an interview with The Sun UK that he was inspired by artists David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles. Many songs on the album, such as the songs Sweet Creature and Woman, resemble this sound. Foran junior Ava Corsi calls the music an “angelic yet emotional listen.”
Before recording the album Styles shot a movie in late 2016. The movie Dunkirk is set in the 1940’s and revolves around Germany’s advancement into France during the Battle of Dunkirk. Styles stars as Alex, one of the movie’s supporting characters. It is his first role in any type of film. However in high school he enjoyed acting as the lead in many drama school productions. The movie is scheduled to release on July 21, 2017 in IMAX.
One Direction fans are giving Styles an immense amount of support in all of his endeavours. Freshman Emily Kopstein said, “I’ve always been a fan of them and although they’ve gone their separate ways with life I am proud of every single one of them.” Junior Julia Renz said that she has always been a Harry girl. “Harry was always my favorite. I supported him in 1D and I do now too.”
Harry Styles bandmates Niall Horan and Liam Payne also released music this May. Horan released his second song on May 4th and it within 24 hours the song hit number one on Billboard’s trending chart. Payne released his song Strip That Down seven days after Styles’ album dropped and one week later it hit the Billboards Top Ten. All of the boys have been featured on numerous talk shows and radio broadcasts to promote their careers. The boys continue to share a love for music but have sadly put off their plans to regroup for a couple of years in order to focus on their solo careers.
