The Nintendo Switch is the newest video game console made my Nintendo. With many popular games that were released in 2017 such as Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 2, it is very promising that there will be many more games during the course of 2018 that will become very popular. Some of these games were already released but there still are many other highly anticipated games that will come out soon.
There will be a Super Smash Bros game that will come out in 2018 for the Switch. Not much is known about it now, but this hasn’t stopped fans from guessing what will be in the new game. It is unknown so far if this game will be an entirely new Smash Bros game or it will just be an updated port of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. According to Screen Rant, “… it sounds as if the Wii U iteration was ported over and then evolved into what has become Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for fans hoping to see the biggest roster in franchise history.” What we do know so far is that the Ice Climbers, who were in Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl may also make their return in this game after not being included in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. This game will also have third-party characters. One possible candidate is Banjo-Kazooie from the Banjo-Kazooie games, which were released by British video game company Rare when the company was still partnered with Nintendo. Other third-party characters including Shovel Knight, Bomberman, Rabbids, and Solid Snake may also appear in this game. Colby Darden, senior, believes that Goku from the Dragonball franchise will make an appearance in this game. Sophomore, Gavin Paeth said, “From a personal standpoint I would like to see Luke Fon Fabre from Tales of the Abyss.” According to Screen Rant and the Super Smash Bros Nintendo Switch trailer, it is highly likely that “Yoshi, Pit, Donkey Kong, Peach, Ness, Marth, Mario, Link, Sheik, Pikachu, Kirby, Samus, Zelda, Bowser, Fox, Captain Falcon, and Wario” will be returning in this game. While there isn’t too much information about this game currently, it certainly has a lot of hype.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is going to be released on May 4 for the Nintendo Switch. This game originally came out on the Wii U on February 14, 2014. However, the Nintendo Switch version of the game introduces Funky Kong as a new main character which is playable in the new Funky Mode. According to Nintendo, “His extra hearts and unique abilities make for a more relaxed gaming experience.” You can also play as Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong in Original Mode. Each character in this mode has their own unique abilities. According to Nintendo, the plot for this game is that “arctic invaders have turned Donkey Kong Island into their personal frozen fortress, and it’s up to you to save the day.”
Super Meat Boy Forever, is the sequel to the 2010 game Super Meat Boy and it is most likely coming out before the summer of this year. It is developed by the independent video game company Team Meat. According to the Super Meat Boy website, the plot of this game is that “Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have a little baby named Nugget (awww). Dr Fetus has kidnapped Nugget, forcing Meat Boy and Bandage Girl to rescue her.” Like the original game, it’s a challenging but fair platform runner that has controls that are easy to use but are hard to master. This sequel specifically has only two buttons as controls instead of the multiple buttons that were used in the first game. One of the buttons is for jumping, the other is for sliding. According to Eurogamer, “Hit the jump button while in mid-air, however, and Meat Boy will thrust forward his gigantic Battletoads-inspired fist, smashing any foes in the way and propelling his momentum. Hold the slide button in mid-air and you’ll plummet downwards, altering your trajectory on a whim.” According to the Super Meat Boy Website, “Each time you beat a level, an increased difficulty criteria is used to generate the harder version of that level.” There are 40-50 versions of each level that vary in difficulty. The co-creator if the original game Edmund McMillen was not involved in the production of Super Meat Boy Forever. According to Eurogamer, he “gone independent to work on such titles as The Binding of Isaac, The End is Nigh, and the upcoming RPG The Legend of Bum-bo.” His former partner Tommy Refenes was in charge of making this game. Not only will this game be released for the Nintendo Switch. It is also going to come out on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, IOS, and Android.
These games seem very promising because of their gameplay, graphics, easy to get but hard to master controls, and the overall dedication put into the production of these games. They didn’t just take overnight to create. It requires a lot of creativity and hard work to complete a game. Overall, these games seem to be fun and exciting for a variety of reasons.New Nintendo Switch 2018 Releases.
