I bet you’ve been trying to figure out why there was blue tape on the windows outside of the media.

Well, AP Photography was told to work together to create a display of installations. An installation is a three-dimensional work that is often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space. These installations are often temporary, and we will later photograph our work in order to preserve it.

Before beginning the project, we were asked to research Andy Goldsworthy, Sandy Skoglund and Tony Feher, known as installation artists, to get an insight into how to approach such a different task than we were used to.

“AP Photo students scouted a location, assessed natural lighting sources, experimented with the media (blue painters tape), and began to create original designs based on the Elements and Principles of Design.  A really exciting part of this installation is that it changes as the day’s light changes,” said Hudson.

This project was really an eye opener for the rest of the class and me. Since the project, my work has improved and I feel a lot better about my work. I feel able to connect with my work more than I did before. My latest project involved creating 30 paper cranes, which is something I probably would not have done if Mrs. Hudson didn’t create this project.

Senior, Claire Ritz said, “Mrs. Hudson prefaced this project with the idea that we are not only photographers, but artists. This project made me realize that I am more than just a photographer – I am an artist.”
