Tonight, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., Foran’s football team plays its second home football game at the Vito DeVito sports complex against Guilford.
Foran is led by new head coach Garrett Walker who took the reins from Tom Drew, who has taken a position as athletic director at Jonathan Law High School.
Walker is not new to coaching. This is his 10 year coaching. He was an assistant for nine years before taking over as head coach this year.
Both the Grizzlies and the Lions are going into tonight’s game 1-0 on the season hungry for their second win. According to the score predictor website MaxPreps, Guilford is predicted to win against Foran in tonight’s big game based on their first game of the 2023 season. Both teams, Guilford and Foran, are doing exceptionally well for the start of their season.
Junior center Jagger Rees is prepared. He states, “We hydrate. We watched film. We broke down and analyzed plays from Guilford.”
The fans will be showing up to tonight’s whiteout-themed game wearing white. Senior Mackenzie Posey chose the theme to keep the school spirit high.
Sophomore football player Shane Trevethan states, “[Wearing a particular colors is] a tradition for our school.”
The three senior captains who are leading the team will be a part of the starting lineup for tonight’s game. Captains Branden Payne, Josh Smith, and Jack Beaupre, have been preparing and will show off their talents..
Foran pulled off a win in last year’s contest against Guilford in a nail biter. The final score from the last matchup was 35-34.
Junior starting quarterback Joey Gagliardi states, “ I think we are really prepared, we have a former coach [Jonathan Reinecke] we are playing against tonight. Coach Farrell and Coach Walker have a changed a few things like mental reps and our play calling a little bit. I think everyone is ready and prepared for this game. It’s going to be a tough task but I think we’re good.”
Senior cornerback/wide receiver Mikey Piscatelli adds, “ They have a lot of talent but so do we on both sides of the ball. I think it would be a pretty even matchup.”
