The Girls’ Varsity Soccer team has many goals for the 2025 season, both on and off the field. The team’s main goal was to improve its record and make it to states. With their state game tomorrow, the team looks to extend its record to 12-5.
New head coach Stephen Bell states, “It’s a good group…I’m pretty fortunate with four very good captains, seniors, that lead the group really well…”
Being the new head coach this year, Coach Bell has many tasks to follow up on. He expresses how he feels about this new position: “The environment’s been great…the level of soccer players has been fantastic.”
With practice most days and games together, the players have grown to become good friends, showing that the soccer team not only focuses on the sport, but the relationships you can make as well.
Many of the players have personal goals that they work together to achieve, and some have already been accomplished.
Senior Soccer Captain, Allison Ryan says, “One of my goals was becoming a captain, and I’m glad that I am because now I’m able to provide a legacy for the people after me.”
Many team members have their own thoughts and opinions on what they put into the team as well. This could influence their actions and decisions on and off the field.

Jillian Romeo, a sophomore, has been playing on the team as a forward and left wing for two years now. She expresses how she feels about the sport: “It allows me to disengage from everything going on in my life…90 minutes of just soccer.”
Many players feel the same way Romeo does, showing that soccer is more than just a sport to players.
Romeo adds that when she plays easier teams, she seems to brush it off and not worry about it much, but for the difficult teams, she has the mindset, “I need to be better, I need to improve. It’s a good learning opportunity for me.”
This truly shows how players may feel on the team without expressing it out loud.
As the season comes to an end, the girls’ varsity soccer team finishes strong as they go to compete at states. Girls’ soccer plays on Friday, October 31, at home for the first round of states. They are ready to take on Ansonia and aim to win the game for Foran.
