Last year, the softball team went undefeated and won the state championship. This year, the goal has now become to win the state championship again. Despite the hopes of another undefeated season ending, the Lions are still focused on bringing home another title.
To be as dominant as they are, the Lions have to have strong team chemistry. The team works to make sure that their chemistry is strong so they are able to function at such a high level. Every Tuesday, a sports psychologist comes in and talks about team exercise. “It brings light to the psychology of sports,” Head Coach Gina Georgetti states.
The Lions suffered their first loss since 2024, with a 6-0 loss to Cheshire on April 17. Despite the loss, the girls bounced back with a 6-1 win over rival Jonathan Law on April 20, followed by a 17-4 win over Mercy two days later.
Even though the perfect season was unachievable, losses can bring change and learning. “I think getting a loss is a good thing for us,” Georgetti remarks. The focus is on this year and winning the state title again, and a loss isn’t going to change that. “I don’t really care what happened last season,” says Georgetti.
The dominant wins over both Law and Mercy highlight their recent success.

Freshmen and Sophomores have stepped up to the plate when they are needed.
Junior Norah Bove states, “They’ve helped out in the dugout by cheering, and they help pick people up. They are always ready to play because they all love the sport.”
It’s important that the Lions have talent for the future because without it, the team won’t be able to sustain the level of success that they have seen.
The Lions are currently ranked #4 for Class M. While the ranking may have dropped from last season, the Lions still set high expectations. Senior and Captain Abby Corris says, “The team plays nervously because they have to live up to the #1 expectation.”
The ranking change has given the team a breather; they continue to play at a high level, but don’t feel as nervous now that they aren’t the #1-ranked team.
As of May 28, the Lions currently have a record of 17-5 and are ranked #4 in the state. They are still pushing for the state title again.
The girls will find out who they play on Friday for the first round of states. The first game will be on Monday, June 1, 2026.
