Now that classes are settled and sports have officially begun, it’s time for students to establish their pick of the numerous clubs and extracurriculars offered at Foran.
Foran’s variety of clubs offer opportunities to practice any interest one might have. With options from Debate to Crochet Club, if you can name it, there’s a club for it.
Key Club, one of the more popular clubs at Foran, is a service club that provides opportunities for students to contribute to their community and gain volunteer hours.
In addition to community service, students have a plethora of clubs at their convenience to get involved and embrace one’s passion through groups such as Book Club or Visual Arts Club. Students are encouraged to display their creative side and be a well-rounded member of their school community.
Senior Book Club president Valeria Juliao discusses the perks of joining clubs that cater to one’s interests.
“When you join a club, you get to dive deeper into your passions and hobbies with people that share similar interests, personally by joining a club I’ve gotten a chance to try new things and surround myself with new people and make connections,” Juliao expresses.
Foran’s extracurriculars give students an outlet to make a difference through volunteering around Milford.
The Sound Lions is one of the many offered clubs with volunteer opportunities. The club specializes in marine life and helping improve the local environment.
Science teacher and advisor of the club Mrs. Laura Donovan elaborates on the benefits of becoming a member.
“This club is for any student who wants to meet people, make some new friends, and help better our local wildlife and ecosystems,” Donovan shares.
As students join and become members of various clubs, they learn to work together and make new friends while gaining different skills and experiences.
The Giving Table is a vital part of Foran’s catalog of clubs. The group comes together to make meals for the needy. Not only is it rewarding to support those in need, but members can advance their culinary skills all while receiving community service hours in the process.
Advisor Miss Randy Colin, says, “When you walk in the room [604], you see and feel all the love going into the food.
Colin continues to detail the work members put into each project of the club.
“Students are working side-by-side, knowing they will be providing someone comfort with a meal…that they prepared. We’re saying thank you and recognizing people that make a difference…The Giving Table nurtures the soul. By the end of the school year, we feel like a family,” Colin explains.
Extracurriculars offer an abundance of resources for students to expand their outreach in their school community; the full club index can be accessed through Foran’s portal on milforded.org.
