Pastries, cakes, candies, cookies, and more. There are tons of desserts to choose from when in the mood for something sweet. With so many options, how can a person choose?
National Dessert Month goes throughout all of October and includes National Dessert Day. This month is a time where people can indulge in their favorite treats.
Foran is full of dessert lovers, with 95.6% of students and staff saying they like dessert. There are a variety of desserts that are beloved here at Foran. Choosing a favorite dessert is difficult with all the different tastes and flavors. There will always be a lot of answers on what their favorites are. To get to the bottom of this, students were given a survey.
Many students have opinions about which one is the best, including sophomore Brogan Casey.
Casey says his favorite is “chocolate cream pie. This is because it reminds me of the time I spent with my family.”
Certain foods can remind students of this. Casey also stated the first time he ever had this dessert was when he was five during Thanksgiving. The feeling of family can gather people together to share one thing in common, including Casey’s love for chocolate cream pie.
Other answers taken from the survey showed that 33.04% of students and staff say that ice cream is their favorite dessert, while cookies and brownies were tied for second.
To satisfy a sweet tooth, some look to Icing on the Cake. This Stratford-based bakery, owned by Brenden Cortina, prides itself on making things “the old-fashioned way.”
The variety of snacks sold expands from cakes, cookies, eclairs, cannolis, and more. While there is a lot to choose from, which one stands out the most?
Cortina says that the “Cannolis are probably the favorite.” He goes on to state “The sweetness and crunchiness [of the cannoli] puts it all together.”
Cannolis are a traditional Italian pastry that was first dated back to the early 800’s. They were first made in Palermo, Italy which at the time was a part of Sicily.
Cortina, expressing the beauty of the pastry, explains “They are a favorite among all nationalities, not just Italians.”
This shows anybody can eat any type of food no matter what the nationality is. Just because a food is classified as something doesn’t mean certain people can’t eat it.
When bake shop teacher Randy Colin was asked what her favorite dessert was, she stated, “My two favorites are a creme brulee, and a cannoli filled with mascarpone cheese, dipped half way in chocolate.”
If people are looking for easy desserts to make at home during national dessert month Randy states “Some easy desserts are lemon scones, chocolate mousse, double chocolate chip espresso cookies, a custard tart decorated with fresh fruit. It sounds difficult, but it’s not and of course, any fruit pie.”
