The streets of Milford’s Green are lined with many stores and restaurants, and as the weather starts to warm up, it will soon be bustling with people. To avoid spending too much time planning your next adventure, here’s a compiled list of suggestions for maximizing your enjoyment.
1. Date and Time:
Deciding when to plan your journey downtown is tough, especially when going with friends. In a green as active as Milford’s, there’s almost always an event happening that could affect your planning as well. In the spring, there’s the annual Milford Irish Festival, where residents can celebrate their heritage with food, live music, crafts, and more. In the winter, there’s the Tree Lighting hosted by the city and Frosty Fest, where families or organizations can decorate snowmen displayed all around the green.
2. Weather:
Situated on the New England Coast, Milford experiences a range of weather, never fully dependent on the season. While it’s recommended to always check the weather, there’s places to hangout nevertheless. On a really rainy day, check out Cafe Atlantique, a small restaurant located on the lower half of the green, perfect for a quick bite and a hot chocolate. Or if it’s a beautiful day, have a picnic on one of the newly placed benches on the green itself and sit in the sun with friends.
3. Activities:
Milford Library:
Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to study, a field to throw a ball around with friends or a forest to explore and overlook into the harbor, the local library has it all. Combined with both the Benard and Francis Fields and the Rotary Pavilion, this area has an endless amount of activities. The library also provides the public with free events aimed towards all age groups, which can be found at https://milford-pl.libcal.com/
4. Food Choices:
The green is chock full with different tastes for everyone. Here’s some of the recommendations.
Scratch Baking:
A cozy restaurant located towards the eastside of the green, Scratch Baking sells a variety of food, ranging from pastries like their Cranberry Orange Scones, to savory items such as their quiches. This is good for a snack break or picking up a refresher for the start of your adventure. Ellie Pasacreta, a worker at Scratch Baking, states that even though their hours are limited between 7 am – 3 pm, that they “encourage people to come and try something new.”
5. Capture Moments:
Choosing to spend the day and cherish the moment with loved ones is always an option, but many choose to take photos, videos, and souvenirs to memorize the time together. Others may recommend creating a small scrapbook or photo album to save the photos.
6. Enjoy the Day:
The most important part of any adventure is to focus on enjoying the day and being in the moment. To be more present without resorting to your phone, Meredith Strauss of Light Street Psychotherapy suggests breaking the habit and allowing yourself to sit for a minute and observing your surroundings.
