Homework. Sports. Social life. They do it all but still manage to help run our school.
Class presidents this school year are senior Connor Rizzo, junior Thao Pham, sophomore Valentina Palisi, and freshman Lena Pangu.
With this upcoming school year, the class presidents have lots of responsibilities. Not only do they help run events in the school, but they are responsible for being a point of contact for students and faculty members.
Abbigail Blanchard, advisor of the student council, describes what she looks for class presidents to do.
“As an advisor, I expect them to be organized, proactive, and reliable, showing dedication to their role as president,” says Blanchard.
Blanchard’s role as advisor for student council is to look over all the class presidents.
“Class presidents have a leadership role in organizing and overseeing various events and activities for their class.” Blanchard states.
Rizzo has been class president for 3 years.
“My main responsibilities as president are to organize fundraisers for our class based on student opinion, plan school events like pep rallies and spirit weeks, and motivate the school to participate in events and fundraisers.”
Their main goal is to make sure that their peer’s voices are heard. They are a voice for their class as a whole, and a representative of their class.
“I think people should think of us more as vessels for their opinions rather than decision-makers for most things,” Rizzo says.
Pham has been class president for three years. She describes how becoming class president has helped her personally.
“The most important thing that I’ve learned is the value of communication.” Pham states.
To her, this role has helped her with communication tremendously, stating how, “This role has really helped me develop my communication skills in so many ways.”
Though becoming president has helped them, these presidents have many other reasons why they decided to join, and what inspired them to do so.
Pangu describes her reasons for becoming president as wanting to learn new skills and help build a community with her class.
“I wanted to become president to build leadership skills and build a community with my peers,” she says. This is Pangu’s first year as president, but has already highlighted favorites in her role.
“My favorite part of being class president is being someone the other freshman can rely on and look for help in various situations,” says Pangu.
Being in the student council is one of the many things these presidents do for our school. Foran’s class presidents are working together to ensure a productive and fun school year ahead, with many events they plan to come.
