As the 2024 election approaches, political candidates are producing more and more campaign ads, hoping to sway people’s vote.
Former President Donald Trump, who is representing the Republican party, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is representing the Democratic party, are the presidential candidates for the upcoming election. As of July 2024, President Joe Biden has decided to not run for re-election, leaving Harris as the democratic nominee.
The prominent key issues discussed in the debates are female rights, inflation, taxes, healthcare, and immigration laws. These topics are the main concerns of voters, which will determine their vote on election day.
¨Every Presidential Election is important. So many decisions that are made by the President have a direct impact on the entire country whether it be foreign or domestic policies,¨ says history teacher Austin Cesare.
Cesare expresses how this upcoming election will shape the political future of the country. Depending on which candidate is elected into office, the policies that concern both parties will set the foundation for the United States.
Senior Skylar Hacker, first time voter, says, “It is important for younger individuals to vote, it’s the future generations, they need young minds and opinions.”
Younger voters who have the opportunity to vote can have an impact based on the recent generation’s norms.
“The leaders we elect make decisions that affect our daily lives. Elections are our chance to stand up for what matters most to us and to have an impact on the issues that affect us, our communities, our families and our future” states the League of Womens Voters of the United States.

If you wish to register, you have to be a citizen of the United States, as well as a resident of the state and town in which you live. Voters also have to be over the age of 18. When registering, sign up digitally, or at Parsons in downtown Milford.
Voting is highly encouraged, especially if you are part of a younger generation. The last day to register in-person is November 3, 2024, and online or by mail is October 18, 2024.
Early voting occurs through October 21 – November 3, 2024. Election day takes place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
