As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving becomes a central theme in communities everywhere. Holiday food drives and clubs including the Giving Table and Rho Kappa Honors Society are crucial in helping food-insecure families and ensuring everyone can share a festive meal.
The holidays remind us of the importance of being together and caring for others. Volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness are selfless actions that have a meaningful impact.
Joseph A. Foran High School is home to the impactful club, The Giving Table. This club prepares meals for families who are food insecure or suffering hardship within the Milford School District and community. Some of the organizations the giving table serves are the Milford First Responders, the Beth El Shelter, The Milford VFW, the Milford Senior Center, and more.
Foran senior Ava Jaquez-Munroe states, “The Giving Table is by far my favorite club, it feels so rewarding to do something so amazing for our community.”
The Giving Table meets every Tuesday, right after school and all students are welcome to join. If interested, a great way to start is to stop by the culinary room and ask for the Google Classroom code or follow the club’s Instagram (@the_giving_table). From there all of the updates for upcoming events/meetings are provided.
Students interested in joining clubs and activities related to helping others in the Milford community would also be suitable for the Rho Kappa Honors Society. To join the club, you must have the minimum required GPA and submit your application.
Austin Cesare, Rho Kappa’s advisor, is passionate about helping others. Rho Kappa is working on a clothing/food drive for our community’s veterans.
Cesare states, “Veterans have given tremendous service to our country and we must support them and help them when they need us to.”
The efforts of the Giving Table and Rho Kappa Honors Society highlight the importance of community support during the holiday season. With their dedication to helping those in need, these clubs show a spirit of generosity, showing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Volunteering and spreading awareness is a way we can all contribute to a more compassionate community.
