With Super Bowl LIX just around the corner, there is a lot more than just the game itself when it comes to a working standpoint. Since the Super Bowl is the largest sporting event in the U.S., many preparations have to be made for it to take place.
Eric Kerzner, a Milford resident, has been with the National Football League since 1998. He has worked every Super Bowl since, and the process hasn’t changed.
When it’s game time, Kerzner’s job differs from the league office, as he puts on a different “hat” for the game as the league broadcasting liaison. He is otherwise known as the “green hat” due to the lime green hat he wears on the 25-yard line. He mentioned that it can also be a challenge.
“There are a certain amount of breaks that must be run during the game, so there is lots of pressure to make sure they all get aired during the game and in a proper spot during the game, even if there are not a lot of break opportunities during the game.”
Along with Kerzner in the green hat, he stands with another person wearing orange sleeves, also coordinating with officials.
“When it is time to request a television break, the orange sleeves and I walk out onto the field, and he crosses his arms to signal to the game officials that we need to take a commercial break.”
