Spring is here, and as the season swings into full gear, we see the Foran Lions baseball team progress throughout the season. As students go through the new season, they also have some new goals.
Last year, they didn’t get as far as they wanted, but this year, they currently hold a record of 8-8 with one game left to go. Every player focuses on their individual goals, like batting average (BA), earned run average (ERA), and other statistics.
But everyone collectively focuses on one main goal: winning. “We want to be a blue-collar hard-working squad that competes for a postseason berth in both the SCC and State playoffs,” Coach Garrett Walker states.
Coach Walker also has some high expectations for the team this year. But believes the team is in great hands with this year’s seniors.
Coach Walker says, “I think this year’s team will do well. We have a great group of competitors and strong leadership. I believe they are ready to have a successful season.”
Players will have to put in a lot of work throughout the season if they want to accomplish their goals, and it’s the same with the coaches. The team will face challenges throughout the season, like tough opponents that will challenge their teamwork and perseverance.
“We need to make sure our guys stay healthy and are able to compete every day. We need to remain mentally resilient this season to combat the natural highs that will exist,” Coach Walker said.
Challenges will occur for anyone or any team in life, but individuals need to know how to get through and overcome them.

“My favorite part about being a coach is the relationships I get to form between my team and each player. I enjoy being a part of the journey into adulthood and hope that I can positively affect them along the way,” Coach Walker remarks.
In order to win, the team will need to have great chemistry between all the players and the coaches. They need to believe in themselves and have the confidence to get through challenges throughout the year. These players will work as hard as they can to accomplish all their goals and to make the postseason.
The Lions’ season is over halfway done, and they have 5 games remaining. Their record has secured them a spot in this year’s state playoffs.
Junior outfielder Nate Cole says, “The team this year has been playing great, and we hope to keep it going as the season is finishing up.”
They also need to make sure they’re having fun while playing and enjoying it.
Freshman player Tate Trevethan says, “I think we’re a well-balanced team and will succeed.”
As the Lions take the field in these last few games, they’re focused on growth, teamwork, and making a strong postseason run. With solid leadership, resilience, and a love for the game, they’re ready to face any challenge and make this season a success. The Lions’ next and final regular season game is May 20 at Law.
