Foran High School’s softball team has cemented its name into school history with a groundbreaking 20-0 regular season—the first time any sports team at Foran has gone undefeated since the school opened in 1973. But the Lions aren’t done yet. With two postseason wins already under their belt, and a crucial 6-4 victory in the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Tournament Semifinals over crosstown rivals Jonathan Law on May 27, Foran continues to prove why they’re the team to beat.
Through 20 regular-season games, the Lions dominated their competition, outscoring opponents 200-19. With two postseason wins, their scoring margin has grown to 214-24. Their monumental run has earned them the #6 ranking in Connecticut and the second seed in the SCC. In recognition of their accomplishment, the entire team was named Athlete of the Week—a rare and well-deserved honor.
Assistant coach Abbigail Blanchard couldn’t be more proud of her team’s performance and growth.
“It feels incredible! I am so proud of the girls for what they’ve accomplished this season, so far! Going undefeated is not an easy task, and it shows their hard work and commitment,” Coach Blanchard remarks.
Junior pitcher Abigail Corris, who has thrown multiple no-hitters and emerged as a fundamental player in the field, echoes Coach Blanchard’s pride. “Being a pitcher on an undefeated team is an incredible feeling,” she says. “Every time I take the mound, I know I have a great team behind me.”

The Lions’ unity and chemistry have been the foundation for their success. “Many of them have been playing together for years, and that familiarity helps,” says Coach Blanchard. “They know how to help each other, pick each other up during tough moments, and how to push each other to be better every day.”
Head coach Gina Georgetti, a Foran alum herself, added, “This team is special, and I am thrilled that they get to show everyone how special they are.”
Foran softball’s team-first mentality shows in everything they do. “We have team-building activities as well as Chalk Talks once a week,” Coach Georgetti says. “Our players know that playing for Foran Softball is playing for something bigger than themselves; it’s playing for the people beside them.”
Even when pressure is high, the players stay grounded. “When I am on the mound, I try to focus on the moment,” says Corris. “It doesn’t matter what happened last inning because nothing can change that. In stressful situations, I always listen to what our coach, Duffy [Lynch], says: ‘Breathe through your toes and stay confident.’”
Now two games deep into the postseason, the team has turned the page. “We break our season into two parts: regular season and postseason,” Explains Coach Blanchard. “So heading into SCC and state tournaments, we view it as starting a new season, we are 0-0 again. The focus now is to stay sharp, stay hungry, and continue to support each other.”
Coach Georgetti agrees, emphasizing the importance of staying in the moment, “When pressure starts to build, we like to break the game down and go back to basics. All we have to do as a team is win every inning.”
That mentality is already paying off. With a playoff win over a major rival and two postseason victories overall, the Lions are proving that they are just as good as their regular-season record says they are.
Corris expressed her excitement about the team’s postseason run, emphasizing how much playing at this level means to her, “It is a reflection of how hard we worked all of the regular season, and how much it paid off. As a team, our goal is just to play Foran Softball and show everyone who we are.”
This team has proven that they’re more than talented—they’re making history. As the Lions keep dominating in the postseason, they continue to build their legacy, and regardless of the outcome, this season will be remembered as one of the greatest in Foran’s history.
The Lions are set to compete in the SCC Tournament Finals on Thursday, May 29, at 5:30 p.m., taking on Cheshire at Frank Biondi Softball Field at West Haven High School.
