The Foran football team is set to kick off its 2025 season. Every year, fans look forward to the Foran Lions playing under the bright lights in the cool fall weather. As the Lions begin their season, they are ready to show the hard work that they have been putting in throughout their summer workouts, led by not only Coach Walker but senior captains Kyle Viesselman, Oscar Valle, Zach Lund, Shane Trevethan, Alex Testani, and Gavin Lefebvre.
“Being a captain is one of the biggest accomplishments to me in football, I get to lead my teammates, but I see them as family, where we spend every day progressing off each other,” explains Senior captain Oscar Valle
They have been putting in countless hours of practice and working hard to prepare for this season’s kickoff.
“The fans are one of the biggest parts of the football games, hearing their chants and cheers for us drives me more, it motivates me,” says Senior Zach Lund.
Last season, the Lions finished the season .500, going a total of 5-5 and 3-3 in league games compared to their opponents, Ledyard’s record last season of finishing 7-4 and 1-2 in league games.
“Last season we worked hard all year but fell short, hopefully this year we can start off good and finish off good,” explains Senior Captain Kyle Viesselman.
Unfortunately, the Lions fell short of making states due to the loss against town rivals Jonathan Law. Senior captain Gavin Lefebvre has taken on the role of starting QB, in hopes of leading the Lions to a successful season.
“This year we have been working hard and practicing non-stop in order for us to reciprocate that in the games,” says Senior Oscar Valle
As Foran’s Lions adjust to the new leadership, they plan to win their season opener and keep the wins going as the season goes on.
Junior Owen Trice says, “The team this year is really well-balanced and I think we will have a great season.”
The Lions watch film once or twice a week and reflect on the plays that they run in games and mistakes that they make, but each player watches film every day on their own. This helps the Lions fix their mistakes so they don’t repeat them.

With new leaders stepping up, weeks of preparation behind them, and the support of their fans in the stands, the Foran Lions are determined to make this season one to remember. As they take the field under the Friday night lights, their focus is not only to win games, but also to build a legacy of teamwork, resilience, and pride that will carry them through the fall.
Lions start off the season against Ledyard on Friday, September 12, at 7:00 PM, at the Vito Devito Sports Complex.
