As the weather changes and the leaves fall, new sets of activities are on the horizon for all. From the basics like pumpkin picking to more niche interests like autumn crochet, students soak up the crisp air and cozy days with their favorite activities.
Pumpkin Picking: A staple fall activity that never goes unnoticed every year, pumpkin picking can always provide an enjoyable experience for groups of people.
Freshman Jenna Schuld states, “Almost every year since I was little, I have gone pumpkin picking. Honestly, it’s my favorite part about fall.” Schuld then went on to express how enjoyable spending the day with her family is, becoming a tradition near to her heart.
Apple Picking: Similar to pumpkin picking, apple picking is another undoubtedly famous way to spend autumn days. A famous local farm located in Easton, Connecticut, named Silverman’s Farm, is notably known for its well-organized apple picking, bringing family and friends together. The reason behind this extreme popularity for apple picking is due to the versatility of what can be done with the apples, whether being used to make pie, covered in caramel, or just eaten as a snack. The memories that come with the experience make apple picking a delightful experience.
Baking: Although an activity that is done year-round, something about the experience of autumn baking is set apart from other parts of the year. The crisp fall air, partnered with the scent of a fall candle, can elevate the baking experience for anyone.
Sophomore Tsviatana Tserakh says, “My favorite thing about fall is baking. My mom and I both make this pumpkin cookie every year, which is so good.” Tserakh added that it has worked as a connection point between baking and her family, creating lasting memories.
Reading: A versatile hobby that can be enjoyed personally or in a group setting, makes reading the ideal activity for anyone. Reading can act as a topic of interest for friends or as a safe space for a single person. Due to the expansive range of the reading world, there is always a book that can portray any aspect the reader is searching for. An example of a fall-themed genre is horror books, which keep readers in a spooky mode while immersing them in a new world.
English teacher Miss Chelsea Green states, “I think the best time to read is in the fall because you can cozy up under a comforter with a cup of tea and look outside at the colorful leaves; it’s very aesthetic.”

Movies: Due to the wide variety of autumn-themed movies, there is no better way to spend a cozy night in. The flexibility that comes with watching movies also makes it a perfect choice for solo watching or group watching. Whether in bed or in the reclining chair at the movie theater, the experience is sure to bring a comforting vibe.
Knitting: Knitting and crocheting are extremely customizable ways to spend the day. The ability to craft whatever one wants, like a pumpkin or a ghost, makes it an exciting experience. Additionally, the choice of doing it with friends, family, or no one makes it suitable for all types of people.
The plethora of activities to participate in throughout autumn makes it the perfect time to create or expand relationships and expand your horizon. Utilizing seasonally special activities can ensure that no time is wasted and days are filled with enjoyment and comfort.
