With Halloween on Friday, people might be looking for activities to do during this spooky season while still staying local.
Luckily, there is a haunted trail located in Shelton called Legends Of Fear. Not only does it provide a haunted trail, but people can also do a haunted hay ride, and they offer a variety of fall food and drinks.
Many find this as a fun and scary thing to do with friends and family. You walk through different houses within the trail, and there are many scares along the way. These monsters are not allowed to touch you.
According to the owners of Legends Of Fear, the idea was created about 30 years ago when they attended a Farm Bureau event locally, where a guest speaker from Iowa discussed opening haunted hayrides during October.
“We opened our haunted hay ride where guests boarded tractor-drawn hay wagons in October nearly 30 years ago, with the help of our family and farm friends, with all love of spooky things and Halloween,” says Trish Wells, one of the owners of Legends Of Fear.
Legends Of Fear started as only a haunted hayride, but in 2013, they introduced a new attraction, the haunted trail.
They went on to name the trail Melon Head Revenge. The meaning behind this name was because of their location on Saw Mill City Road, known for the urban legend of the mysterious cannibalistic Melonhead creatures.
The goal for the scare actors is to scare and entertain but not to terrorize.. The staff is directed to complete safety training and to know exactly what is expected of them when they see a guest who is not enjoying themselves and is truly afraid.
The trail and hayride together contain 175 actors, airbrush artists work on the staff, and it takes a big team to get each one ready every night.
If visitors ever get too scared from their experience, there is a large security staff who will escort those who are too afraid to continue on with their journey out of the trail.
Approximately 10 percent or more of guests do not complete the trail because they are too afraid. While you wait to go on the trail, there is a bonfire you can sit around and enjoy all of the Halloween-themed decorations.
Legends Of Fear attracts guests from states other than just Connecticut. They have earned many rewards for their trail and hayride.
They have been nationally recognized for multiple years by peers in other industries within their organization. They are one of the select groups of elite haunted attractions for maintaining a commitment to safety, professional conduct, and raising industry standards.
This trail provides a good balance of fun and spooky. There are multiple houses to walk in throughout the trail, all containing a different theme. There are themes like clowns, nuns, melonheads, saws, and a dollhouse.
Legends Of Fear not only offers Halloween festivities, but it is also a Christmas tree farm in the Winter, opening November 29 through December 21. The last hayride of the season is on November 1.
