It’s finally the fall season, more leaves are falling, and more places are opening up to themed celebrations one by one. Searching for things to do during these months can be easy, but also a struggle when it comes to finding new things. Some places are offering new ways to celebrate the season and take on the challenge of keeping up with what people are interested in.
Ghastly Haunts:
With thoughts of Halloween, people commonly go straight to the thought of haunted places and anything paranormal. A list of haunted houses with high thrill factors includes Fright Haven in Stratford, which features many themed houses that change year-round, Harvest After Dark in Fairfield, not just including haunted houses but also haunted hayrides, and lastly Phantom Fall Fest at Lake Compounce in Bristol, with five new houses and meet-and-greets.
Many enjoy the scares from behind hidden doors and spooky rooms, “…my friends and I like to look up festivals going on and go apple or pumpkin picking or see the Trail of Terror and Fright Haven,” said Ms. Callie Jackson, a teacher at Foran High School. “I used to go to the Trail of Terror all the time. I absolutely love it.”
Haunted houses are a very big hit in the fall season. Don’t miss out on the scares that await you.
Walks of Scares:
Ghosts of New Haven is one of many ghost trails you can sign yourself up for; it presents many houses accompanied by stories and presentations at each visiting destination.
There is also the Guilford Ghost Tour, which provides even more historical background with ghostly stories to make you uneasy. It also offers Energy Healings, Readings, and Clearings.
Mystic also gives ghost tours called Haunted Mystic, offered by Seaside Shadows. You can walk around their downtown landscape, which crosses the bascule bridge between both sides of the Mystic River. You will be in the dark and hear about the supernatural history of New England’s famous seafaring village, and also hear more about its Revolutionary heroes.
Mystic also extends to a moonlit graveyard tour, where you will listen to more stories about those who have been buried in that graveyard, the horrors of the Captains of King Philip’s War, and Patriot Defenders meeting bloody ends.
Gourds and Glow:
Fair Weather Acres, a spot in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. It’s a fall festival including pumpkin picking, corn field maze, hay rides, hay maze, grain corn pit, and much more. It’s your typical family-friendly place that offers more than just one activity to keep you entertained. It’s fun for all ages and is definitely worth the ride.
“I enjoy going to the fall festivals and pumpkin picking, I also enjoy the volunteering opportunities,” said Sophia Skoczolek, a sophomore at Foran.
The Beardsley Zoo is doing its GLOW Wild Lantern festival again this year. They offer nighttime at their zoo to be more of a fun experience than it normally would with their dimmed lights. All 35 lantern animals and decorations are hand-crafted and set up around the entire park. This makes it even more photo-worthy with every turn and more tasty with their themed treats.
