After a rough 2020 , 2021 has high expectations tagged along with it. These expectations are shaping up to be met by the entertainment industry and the content they have planned to release throughout the year.

With a plethora of exciting new shows and movies, and thrilling sports seasons, 2021 looks like it could be the much needed break from a troublesome reality.

Towards the tail end of 2020, many entertainment giants started to release the timelines for their new releases in 2021.

Disney’s investor day on December 10 was jam-packed with new movies and shows slated to come out over the course of 2021.

Senior Joshua Bernardo says, “I am very excited for the new “Raya and the Last Dragon” film because it has the influence of South Eastern Asia and some Filipino elements which related to my Filipino background.” The “Raya and the Last Dragon” film is the next biggest movie coming from Disney outside of their main brands they are known for.

Some of the biggest announcements came from the Star Wars section of Disney. With the success of the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian” there was a vast interest in what was coming next from the Star Wars license.

It was confirmed that the “Obi Wan Kenobi,” “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Bad Batch” tv shows will release on Disney + in 2021  alongside the newly announced “Ashoka” and “Star Wars:Visions” shows.

The Disney Investor’s Day also confirmed that new Marvel content would be dropping in 2021 both in cinemas and on the Disney + streaming service.

Marvel last released a movie with the smash hit “Avengers : Endgame” in which the fate of the heroes has been changed forever.

They are known for their neverending universe of films related to their superheroes so it came as a shock when nothing was released during 2020.

However, they are making it up to fans by releasing a whole host of new tv shows including “WandaVision” which recently came out on January 15, “Loki,” “What If” and “Falcon and The Winter Soldier”.

They are pairing the release of the tv shows with blockbuster films such as “Black Widow,” “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Eternals” and a new Spider Man film to close out the year.

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige says, “There’s a lot of new content coming from Marvel Studios, making the MCU more immersive than ever.”

Outside of the world of Disney there will be many new and exciting films coming out in 2021 such as “The Justice League Snyder Cut,” “Black Adam,” “Space Jam:A New Legacy,” “Godzilla v Kong,” “Venom:Let There Be Carnage,” “Matrix 4,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Tom and Jerry,” “Jungle Cruise,” “Suicide Squad,” “Conjuring 3,” “Cruella” and “Halloween.”

2020 was believed to be all miss and no hit but the year brung season 2 of the hit show “The Mandalorian” containing lots of surprises for viewers,

It also brought the much anticipated sequel to “Wonder Woman” and Disney Pixar came out with their new movie “Soul” to keep the cinema world ready for what was to come in 2021 through the film industry.

If the film industry is not up your alley then the new sports seasons will be sure to fill your days.

2020 impacted the flow of sports and caused some road bumps in the seasons but 2021 is poised to smooth those bumps and provide an exciting year of sports.

The start of 2021 is off to a flyer with European Soccer coming into the nail biting portions of their seasons. The English Premier League has just passed the halfway point of their season in which the title race is the closest it has been in years with Manchester United, Manchester City, Leicester, Spurs and Liverpool in a tight battle at the top of the table.

Foran Senior Nick Carroll says,  “I am excited to see who lifts the trophy at the end of the season, this year is going to be very close considering everyone is points away from each other.”

Other leagues such as the Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are also in close title races whilst in the Spanish La Liga, Atletico Madrid are on the verge of going 10 points clear at the top of the table.

In the world of American Football, the NFL is whittling down and is now in the final stages of the playoffs before advancing to the Super Bowl with many shock teams being eliminated/progressing.

The NBA season is also underway with teams such as the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers topping their leagues.

This year is sure to have both film and sports fans on the edge of their seats whether it be during a tense game or a thrilling movie.
