Touchdown: Foran football wins 43 to 18 against Lyman Hall last Friday.

The Foran football team exhausted the Lyman Hall Trojans 43 to 18 during their first game of the season on Friday night.

Captain Kyle Zarnoch states, “We had a great game. Looking forward to bringing this energy back home this Friday.”

In the early minutes of the game, both teams were bringing the heat with a first quarter score of zero to zero. Early in the second half, however, the Lions scored a safety.

Varsity head coach, Thomas Drew said, “The safety brought energy to the game and put us at ease because it allowed us to put points on the board.” There was no stopping the Lions from securing the win.

Important highlights of the game included starter junior Jack Cushman throwing for four touchdowns, senior AJ Edmond rushing for a 90-yard touchdown, and senior Kyle Zarnoch,  senior Luca Ubaldi, and  senior Dean Ross making key interceptions. Ross took his interception to the endzone for a touchdown.

Kenneth Patrick, the varsity receiver coach, says, “We played well… but we still have a lot of work to do to be ready for this Friday.”

The home opening game will be this Friday, September 17 at 7:00pm. There are no restrictions anymore for fans, so the team is expecting a large student section to cheer their way into another victory.

The theme of the first home game is to wear yellow or gold to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charitable organization raising money for cancer research. At the game, paper lemons will be sold for one dollar. To learn more about Alex’s Lemonade Stand, please visit https://www.alexslemonade.org/.

This is Ross’s first time back playing football with pads on. Last season, he was disappointed they were only allowed to play seven on seven due to Covid-19 restrictions. Ross says, “I hope to bring the same energy to Branford as we did to Lyman Hall.” He also adds, “I’m looking forward to a great season with my team.”
