Getting Involved: Club Fair Brings New Opportunities to Students
After two years of reduced opportunities for students to get involved in their community, the club fair was reintroduced to Foran. The fair took place on October 4 and 6, during common time periods. Key Club International, Interact Club, Drama Club, Sleepy Sloths, and many more attended the fair.
The club fair displayed all of the different clubs and opportunities that are available. Each club had their own display, with members and advisors in attendance to explain the opportunities and activities that they have to offer.
It allowed for these groups to properly advertise their club and welcome new members.
The freshmen class was most influenced by the fair, as it is their first year of high school. Getting involved with the school community helps expand their horizons both socially and academically.
Freshman Joe Meade says, “I am currently planning on joining Sleepy Sloths, Sound Lions, and maybe some others in the future.”
While Covid-19 prevented preexisting clubs from meeting or being advertised, many new clubs emerged, including Book Club, Culture Club, and more. New opportunities with extracurriculars being brought to the building helps students become active in the school community.
Key Club advisor, Mrs. Catherine Ganun states, “Students don’t always check our website out to see all the clubs here at Foran. So it’s a great time for everyone to walk around and read about the clubs. ”
The club fair was organized by the junior class advisors, Tommy Melilo, Olivia Salai, Erin Schmitt, and Isabella Sanchez. Other members of student government and student council also assisted with directing students around the different clubs.
Salai shares, “On the day of the fair, we ensured clubs were appropriately accommodated to showcase their work or activities. For example, a ViewSonic [board] was brought in so Game Club could set up a gaming area”
Posters for new clubs and activities can be found around the school and in the announcements daily.
