This year is special for the Foran Girls Volleyball team. Two junior volleyball players reached huge season milestones, both taking place during their home game against Cheshire on October 6.
The teams outside hitter Gracie Brooks reached a milestone of 100 kills and now sits at 130 on the season after the teams big win against Mercy on October 11, clinching them into the State and SCC Tournament.
Brooks states, “The goal for the season was to make the State tournament and win at least one game and also make the SCC tournament.”
Now that the teams goal of making both tournaments was reached their sights are set and focused on the games to come in the state and SCC tournament.
The Libero of the team Gaby Magnuson who reached another big milestone, getting 200 digs on the season is a key player who will be helping them make a big run in both tournaments.
As the libero of the team, “My role as the libero is to be a leader on the court, run the defense in the back row, and to try to encourage my teammates as much as I can”, states Magnuson.
Magnuson is now at 267 total digs on the season and with three more games in the season, she will only continue to get more. As these players both hit important milestones, they have both been recognized by Gametime CT insider for three straight weeks as CT High School top volleyball performers.
Magnuson states,“ I’m really happy that the work I put in during club season and over the summer has payed off this fall and I feel that we as a team have also improved a lot this year, we all work very well together during our practices and I enjoy being able to play with the team everyday.”
Head coach Jessica Blake states,“The team has been doing great this year! There is great team chemistry which has been leading to success.”
Blake has been coaching volleyball for 12 years, first coaching at Amity High School and then transitioning into the assistant coach at Foran. Blake has been the head coach at Foran for the past two years.
The Lions will go on the road for the first round of states on Monday, November 6.
