Knowledge, intelligence, motivation, and support are all key traits of a good coach. Joseph A. Foran’s Girls Lacrosse team has two new assistant coaches this lacrosse season. Players have emphasized a great excitement for this upcoming season.
Carli Cassone is one of the senior captains for this year’s girls lacrosse team.
“I’m just looking forward to enjoying my last season with our team. Since we moved up a division, this season will definitely be more challenging, but that’s exactly what we need as a team,” says Cassone.
This season, Foran High School has brought two new faces to the lacrosse team: coaches Bridget Collins and Colleen Goodwin. These girls were also coached by Brian O’Neil, who has been a Foran Girls Lacrosse coach and played lacrosse for Foran in high school.
Collins emphasizes the impact of playing and how it is affecting the team now.
“We all played together, so we are giving back,” says Collins.
One major part of being a part of a sport is the culture within the team. It is important to have a fun and united team while still keeping the intensity on the field.
Collins explains that “watching everyone improve and getting better each day, while bonding as a team and having fun” is the root to success in a sport.
Goodwin is also a former lacrosse player for Foran High School and played for Endicott College.
“Younger coaches just got out of college, so we have more knowledge that is recent and are able to demonstrate plays and see it happening,” says Goodwin. She is excited to use her lacrosse experience to teach the Foran lacrosse team necessary skills.
O’Neill’s daughter, Sam, started assistant coaching for Foran Lacrosse last year as well. She is excited to bring her own lacrosse skills to the team, and to see each other “be great teammates, love each other, and have fun.”
As these girls have all played lacrosse together throughout their middle school and high school years, they are giving back their lacrosse knowledge they learned from O’Neil, and are looking forward to seeing how this season turns out.
