The changing leaves on the trees overlooking the pumpkin patch at Jones Family Farm is the place to go for the best fall activities.

“Jones Farm is a special experience for many families in the area. What’s not to love from picking your own pumpkins to the breads, cidars, and cookies to the corn maze and the amazing hayrides,” says Foran teacher, Lori Hart.

Jones is located in Shelton, CT and they offer their Jones Family Farms, Jones Winery, and the Harvest Kitchen. Depending on the time of year, the farm offers pumpkins, Christmas trees, strawberries, blueberries, and more. During the fall season, the farm is turned into a pumpkin patch with hayrides, corn mazes, trails, and of course pumpkins of all shapes and sizes.

These fall activities can be great for people of all ages and for all family outings.

Foran teacher, Barbara Dooley says, “My personal favorite is picking strawberries. I love taking a treat off the plant and enjoying it in the warm sun.  Their fruit is always delicious and perfect for jam-making. With the family, though, I love the fall pumpkin picking events. The farm is always set up to let children run about, have families take beautiful pictures, and offer everyone quality products.”

The Jones family has been running the farm for generations, for over 150 years. According to their website, their current farm sits at about 400 acres. In the 1940s, fourth generation Philip Jones started the original Christmas tree farm. In the 1960s, his son, Terry Jones carried on his fathers business by adding strawberry and blueberry fields. Finally in 2004, sixth-generation farmer Jamie added the winery to the popular family business.

During the pumpkin season, the farm’s preview weekend is the last weekend in September and will run everyday until Halloween. Guests can visit the farm on Monday-Friday at 10am to 5:30pm and on weekends 9am to 5:30pm. Reservations are necessary in advance due to Covid protocols and keeping a controlled environment on the farm.

“Over the past weekend I went to Jones with my friends and we enjoyed the fall activities that they offered. We went through the corn maze, flower maze, and went on the hayride… I would definitely recommend Jones’ Family Farms to everyone’s family and friends,” says Foran senior Ava Steigbigel.

If you want to visit a pumpkin patch this fall season, Jones’ Family Farms is a great option for families, friends, and children for fun fall activities.
