This summer, Milford has a lot of activities to do, ranging from going to one of the 15 public beaches, picking up a new activity, or even participating in the Milford Recreation Playground Program.

Milford Recreation Supervisor Mike Dooling says, “The Summer Playground Program is a program for children ages 6-12 that takes place for six weeks in the summer (this year’s dates June 26-August 4).  It is Monday-Friday and is an all-day program going from 8:30am-5:30pm.  With the help of the Milford  Board of Education, we have three  locations: Live Oaks, Orange Ave, and Milford Academy, plus our own facility, the West Shore Recreation Center.”

Participants get an opportunity to get out of the house and get some exercise. The counselors do a lot of different activities with the children that are exciting and engaging.

Dooling also states, “This year we have a full slate of activities for the kids. We will be having the Connecticut Science Center making a visit, a magician, fire dancers, and Curious Creatures to name a few. We will also be having our own Milford Police Department and Milford Fire Department making visits.”

Milford Recreation also runs “Hoops by the Harbor” which is a summer rec basketball league located at Fowler Park.

This summer on June 4 the Milford Downtown Business Association (MDBA) will be hosting the 21 annual Pirate’s Day. For the full schedule and more information click here.

The MBDA is hosting an outdoor movie night series at the Fowler field, starting with the movie The Hook along with The Sandlot, The Little Rascals, and The Parent Trap. This event takes place every Wednesday starting on July 6.

The MBDA is also organizing the 18th season of the Milford Farmers’ Market which takes place from June 10 to October 7. The Farmers’ Market takes place at Wasson Field every Saturday.

The MDBA website says, “The market offers local produce, prepared foods, food trucks, arts, crafts, live music, and special events from all of our wonderful vendors.”

The Milford Arts Council (MAC) has a wide variety of events such as art exhibits and events, theater, concerts, comedy, open mic and so much more. For more information on how to sign up for some of the events click here.

Milford’s beaches feature 17 miles of coastline. Silver Sands State Park is a big attraction with their big feature being their boardwalk.

Walnut Beach has beach volleyball, a live concert series, a three mile long boardwalk, and a fishing pier.

Similar to Walnut Beach, Gulf Beach has a fishing pier and is good for viewing sunsets.

Junior Micheal Piscitelli says, “My favorite place to watch the sunset is Gulf Beach.  I tend to drive by Gulf on my way home to catch the sunset”.
