- How has your experience been so far at Foran?
“My experience at Foran has been fantastic so far. It is hectic coming in after the year has started and not knowing any students or staff was a challenge, but every day I meet new people, which is great.”
- What do you plan on doing within the Foran community?
“That’s a tricky question because I want to be fully invested and it’s hard knowing that I’m not going to be here in the long-term, but I still am embracing my time being a part of the community. I’m very much looking forward to coming to sporting events when I can and coming to the concerts the choir puts on. As a school counselor, my primary job here is to be an advocate for students when they need it and support for students when they need it and I wholeheartedly embrace that.”
- What led you to this career field?
“This is a career change for me. I was in interior design for many years and I loved architecture and the creative pieces, but I felt like I was missing fulfillment. I feel like my nature is that I like to help people and I like working with younger kids. I had always considered going into education before I decided to go the interior design route and this felt like a natural position for me knowing that I could help students.”
- What are your immediate goals or priorities for your time at this school?
“I think there is a lot of pressure on helping seniors get their college applications in because that’s a priority, and I have a caseload with students that have 504 plans, so making sure that those students’ needs are met is very important.”
- How will you approach building relationships with students?
“I think that’s my favorite part of the job. I have lists that I have to go off of of priorities, like making sure that I am meeting the seniors as their college deadlines are coming up, and I have a separate caseload that I have to work off of for students that are struggling in classes but I’m trying to take every opportunity to introduce myself, calling students down when they have a free period just to meet as many students as I can quickly to start to open the door so that when they do have a question or concern, they’re comfortable coming back.”
