As we say goodbye to 2024 and enter 2025, the Recording Academy will hold the 67 annual Grammy Awards and honor the previous year’s work. The highest-regarded categories, such as Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Solo and Duo/ Group Performance, are televised for at-home viewers to see.
A survey conducted asking students at Foran to share who they believe should win each Grammy was completed by 55 students at Foran.
Album of the Year had a large chunk of voters. 32.7% selected Short and Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter.
The album was released in August 2024 with smash hits like ‘Espresso’, ‘Please Please Please’ and ‘Taste’. Carpenter was originally an actor and has made large waves recently in the music industry.
Sophomore Maddie Deldin states, “Her album has great songs that are fun to listen to.”
A jazz artist by the name of Andre 3000 released an album called New Blue Sun and has an interesting angle on his recent releases.
Senior Luke Hackett states “I picked New Blue Sun by Andre 3000 for Album of the Year because I have liked Andre for a long time and I think that it’s great he is doing something new with a different take on jazz.”
The song ‘Fortnight’ off of Taylor Swift’s album The Tortured Poet’s Department is up in the Record of the Year category.
‘Fortnight’ is one of the many songs on Swift’s recent album and features pop star Post Malone, who has recently released a country album. The song is the first track on the album and left fans wanting more.
Senior Caroline Janik, who chose the song for her pick, states, “I picked it because I like the soft, catchy beat of it and it is good to listen to when I’m in any type of mood.”
Overall, through all of the categories and hundreds of nominations, the creativity and hard work put into these songs makes each of them unique. Stay tuned in on Sunday, February 2, 2025, to see who snags each trophy.
